Guy Omer Ouellette and Joan Eliza Gavan were married in 1954 (fig. 32). One year after their wedding, 9 Sherbrooke Avenue was transferred to the couple in 1956 following Sarah Jane Cluff's passing (fig. 33). The Ouellettes would go on to live at the residence until the early 1990s, starting their family there. The Ouellete family operated "Ouellete Barber Shop" out of 7 Sherbrooke Ave., and the building has since remained a barbershop. First, as Ouellette's Barber Shop until 1993/94 (fig. 34), then as "Carole's" until 2015, followed by "The Brooke" until 2021 (fig. 35). Currently, both 7 and 9 Sherbrooke are operated by Kristen Atkinson - previous owner of The Brooke - who owns Mint and ApartMint Hair Studios. In 1967 the family met tragedy as five-year-old Carol Ouellette died on May 1sy when she ran out onto Gladstone Avenue near the corner of Sherbrooke and Melrose, and was sadly hit by a motorcycle (fig. 36). The 17-year-old driver was cleared of all blame.

On Tuesday, 31 August 1965, David Bourguignon was reported to have beaten and robbed 47-year-old Demetri Melnyk of $100 (fig. 37). Melnyk complained that the 56-year-old Bourguignon of 9A Sherbrooke had assaulted him after the complainant had been drinking at the Stirling Hotel with a couple. After the attack, Melnyk was admitted to the hospital for chest pain.
On September 2, 1965 Bourguignon appeared before the magistrate's court and was denied bail. He again appeared in courting October where Melnyk's female drinking companion testified that she heard Bourguignon say, "Get the old man. He has lots of money on him" (fig. 38). The Magistrate ruled that although the attack was carried out by two other men, Bourguignon was guilty of being an accessory and was therefore sentenced to four months in jail.
