Mrs. Donald West attends the graduation ceremony of her brother Sgt. Pilot Elford Rhoades - Apartment 1

“Sergeant Pilot Elford E. Rhoades of Ottawa was among graduates today at a wings parade at No. 6 Service Flying Training School, Moncton, N.B. Group Captain W. W. Brown, school commander, presented the class with their wings and L.A.C. McCallister of Milltown, N.B. was top man in the class.

Mrs. Donald West, 146 Bayswater avenue, a sister of the airman, was present at the graduation ceremony.”

The Sgt. Pilot appears to be the only Ottawan at the school, making his graduation worthy of note in the newspaper. He was 22 years old, born in Ottawa, and both his parents were dead. The paper notes that he was educated at Glebe Collegiate, which still stands at Glebe Ave. and Percy St., and attended St. Matthew’s church, which is probably the St. Matthew’s on Glebe Ave. and Bank St.
