Burglar broke in but did not steal anything

“A burglar secured an entrance to the residence of Mr. David Cuthbertson, 100 Concession street, early Thursday morning, and the strange part of the whole incident is that nothing is reported as missing by members of the household. According to tracks left by the night prowler he passed by gold watches and other valuables and left the place empty-handed.”

The residents of the house knew that someone had gained entrance to the home because the electric light was on in the morning, and they found a box used as a stepstool outside an open window. After closer inspection, they found burnt matches in every room. One guest actually saw the burglar in his own room—he woke up to see a man holding a match but assumed it was just one of the house people. The assumption is that, when the burglar realised that the house was occupied, he made his escape. A bottle of ammonia was found on the kitchen table, presumably from the burglar.

100 Concession St. is 100 Bronson Ave. today.
